Another First of a Kind Win for JNCTION

4th August 2021

An established supplier of data-driven solutions to the rail industry, JNCTION, is once again celebrating success this week as a winner in the government-backed funding competition ‘First of a Kind’.

As one of the successful applicants, JNCTION will deliver a Customer Information System to address passenger issues during disruption.

The ‘First of a Kind’ competition was launched in 2018 and is delivered by the ‘Small Business Research Initiative’, a collaboration between the Department for Transport and Innovate UK. The partnership runs several competitions each year and is committed to providing tremendous financial support for innovative and ambitious projects it believes will modernise and transform the rail industry.

Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said:

“I am delighted to announce the winners of 2021 First of a Kind competition. These winners will hopefully play a role in putting passengers at the centre of our railways as we build back better from Covid-19.

“The competition always throws up surprises and the ideas shown today could transform how we travel in future.”

With 160 competitive applications for the funding, JNCTION has once again demonstrated its trusted capability to deliver data-driven solutions to the rail industry, as one of only 30 winners across the UK and European Economic Area.

This is the second time we have been recognised by the partnership and awarded funding support to help accelerate the delivery of its cutting-edge solutions. The first was in 2019.

CEIS is a next-generation AI-based customer information system. CEIS gives TOCs/NR the ability to rapidly share accurate information during disruptions to tackle the leading cause of dissatisfaction amongst passengers and to make rail travel easier for all passengers. Passengers are kept more informed about delays and disruptions quickly via multiple channels.

We want to make a massive thank you to the DfT and Innovate UK for once again selecting us for funding. We’re looking forward to taking the Decision Support Tool further forward to address the issues faced by rail.
